1980 Uppsala University, which has owned Bjertorp Castle since 1956, is to sell the property. The castle and park were taken over by the County Council in 1956 and during the 24 years it has been in its possession, a country house school has been run on the property. Over the years, the student base becomes smaller and in 1980 the last school graduation is held at Bjertorp. Of many stakeholders, one prospective buyer stands out above all — the County Council in Skaraborg wants to take over the castle and turn it into a youth care facility. But somewhere here, people in the area are beginning to grumble, wonder, unite, and finally form a popular storm against the proposal. Instead, it will be Swebus who buys Bjertorp Castle and starts up conference operations. Today the hotel is owned by Svante Andersson and operated by Winn Hotels AB.
