Tailoring and sewing for a dog ring
Double room with traces of the first student. Gold, pink and floral wallpaper adorn the walls.
When the household school opens in the newly built premises in 1908, Ellen Maria Svensson is one of twelve students in the very first year. Ellen Maria is 19 years old and her father, who is a homeowner, can afford to pay the full fee of 100 SEK. For this, Ellen Maria gets a full year of schooling with subjects such as home economics, cooking, baking, laundry, ironing, cleaning, tidying, weaving, sewing, knitting and gardening on the schedule. Ellen Maria gets good marks in knitting, weaving and sewing but less good reviews in home economics and horticulture. Unfortunately, the story does not tell the story of how she copes in her upbringing, but in any case it is enough to get a job with a veterinarian.
