206 Nordenskiöld

Polar traveler who wrote more stories than his own.

A polar explorer who wrote more stories than his own

Nordenskiöld is a bright double room with a balcony and views of the castle park.

Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld calls himself most of it. Geologist, mineralogist, Finnish Swede, polar explorer, explorer — and member of the Swedish Academy. He is most noted, however, for his journey with Vega through the Northeast Passage. With financial assistance from Oscar Dickson, Nordenskiöld manages to sail from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean by making his way north of Siberia. They set course from Tromsø in 1878 and finish the triumphal event in Stockholm in 1880. The Nordenskiöld discoveries inspire Knut Henrik Littorin so much that he begins to seek his own happiness in the areas now opening up in Siberia. And then there was Dickson. He is Knut Henrik Littorin's mentor at Göteborgs Handelsinstitut.
