Bjertorp Slott and Vara-Bjertorp GK strengthen cooperation

In golf, we often talk about the 19th hole. So the restaurant. It's where you enjoy a round — whether you've made a hole-in-one or a four-putt on the last hole. Now the 19th hole at Vara-Bjertorp GK gets a boost when Bjertorp Slott takes over the restaurant business.

“We see great opportunities to develop the restaurant. I am convinced that this will be good for the golf club, for us at the castle and not least for all golfers,” says Victoria Johansson, CEO of Bjertorp Slott.

Hanna Thorsén, club manager at Vara-Bjertorp GK, agrees:

“Yes, we are extremely pleased that our already excellent cooperation is now extended with Bjertorp Slott taking over and running our restaurant again. We look forward to that.

Already when the golf course was completed in 1990, the cooperation between Bjertorp Slott and Vara-Bjertorp GK started. The opening party was held in the castle's dazzlingly beautiful music hall and the club and castle have since often gone hand in hand. Not least in the annual Bjertorp Open competition.

Both actors know that for their guests the destination is Bjertorp in Västergötland and the track is seen as part of the castle -- and the castle as part of the track. Something that is not so strange as the golf course is located an iron stroke from Slottsparken. The unique proximity was one of the premises when the course was designed and there are many in Golf-Sweden who sneered enviously at this.

“The castle and the club have a common vision and will to develop both in terms of service and quality. This is the main reason for this extended collaboration,” says Victoria Johansson. She notes that with strong cooperation, one plus one can become three...

The restaurant is located in the beautiful clubhouse that was built in 1908, just three years before the Art Nouveau castle was completed and made people wander to the Vara Plain. The golf restaurant currently has about 120 seats with both outdoor seating and a glazed part overlooking both the first and tenth holes.

Sabir Zahoor, chef at Bjertorp Slott - which receives good reviews year after year in Sweden's leading White Guide - has started to file on the menu:

“We look forward to offering well-prepared homemade food based on local ingredients. We also know that many golfers need energy in the form of sandwiches and good coffee. We'll fix that!

Bjertorp Golf Restaurant opens on 1 April — but if the course is open earlier, the small golf cottage will of course offer energy-packed options before then.
