The Story Behind Afternoon Tea

The tradition of afternoon tea is an old one. It originated in England during the 1840s. According to the story, it was Anna-Maria Russel who is the originator of the concept of Afternoon Tea.

Anna-Maria was tired of waiting for dinner in the afternoons — and so began to develop a habit of drinking tea and eating cakes. The initially very simple concept evolved into a larger meal where she invited her friends and acquaintances for pastries and luxurious teas.

Anna-Maria's Afternoon Tea was appreciated, and it didn't take long before it spread throughout the British Empire.

Afternoon Tea had several different designs, depending on which social class you belonged to and what eating habits existed.

Bjertorp Slotts Afternoon Tea has its origins in England, at the same time we have loved and made our very own variant of the phenomenon.
