There are several beautiful churches around the castle of which Fyrunga Church is the closest.
The old church was probably erected in the 13th century of grey stone. This was demolished in 1874 and the current one is built in neo-Gothic style in the same year following drawings by Ludvig Hedin. The baptismal font dates from the 13th century. At the cold wall to the north stand three 17th-century limestone crosses tilted. A portrait burial mound is also preserved. Read more.
Skarstad Church was built in 1859, designed by Johan Adolf Hawerman. The oldest parts of Skarstad Cemetery are probably contemporary with the old church from the 16th century. The cemetery today is around the church and a beautiful avenue of ornäs birches can be found from the western entrance and up to the church. Read more.
Vara Church was consecrated in 1902 by Bishop E.J. Keijser. Before that there was a small medieval church but as the station community grew there was a need for a new church. The oldest fixtures in the new church are the altar cabinet reliefs and the pulpit from the old medieval church. The church received its present design in connection with the renovation of 1994, when the church was restored to its original state from 1902. Read more.
